Stretch Marks And Suggested Treatments

March 12, 2009

stretchmarkHow to Recognize Stretch Marks

The medical name for stretch marks is Striae Gravidarum which is a term related to the scars on the skin that are caused by the damage the elastic fibers that help the skin stretch.  This is a condition that is common and very normal in most women and even some men.

When the elasticity of the skin is overstressed, the skin develops marks commonly referred to as stretch marks.  The skin looses its resilience and the marks appear.  After pregnancy stretch marks are often visible.  They can spread over a large area of the skin, across the abdomen, on the breasts, thighs and upper arms.

Weight gain followed by weight loss is a common cause.  The stretch marks are really not on the surface of the skin but are actually caused by cracks in the elastic fibers below the surface of the skin.

Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

When it comes to stretch marks, prevention is the key word.  It is not possible to completely remove stretch marks but they can become less apparent when the correct treatment is applied for a period of time.  This means preventative care of the skin.  As soon as a woman becomes pregnant it is important to start a daily massage of the abdomen and breasts.

When massaging the skin use a turmeric lemon pre-bath cream.  This is the best preventative treatment as it will maintain the elasticity the skin already possesses and will provide protection against its loss.  This should be a maintained regime even a few months after the delivery.

How Will Using Creams Help

There are a large variety of lotions, oil and creams available to help to prevent stretch marks from forming.  A cream called Belli Stretch Mark Minimizing removal Cream will be a good choice.

During a woman’s pregnancy when the skin becomes itchy, scratching can cause further damage to the skin.  When an over weight individual begins a weight loss program it is important to give special attention to the problem of stretch marks.  Massaging the vulnerable areas is a good preventative measure.

I weigh about 100 pounds and I have had two kids. My daughter was 7 pounds 12 ounces and my son was 8 pounds one ounce, so you KNOW I have some stretch marks. I have always used mineral make up because it is organic and does not have all of the extra chemicals like the other foundations. The coverage is amazing and by adding a little color to your deep stretch marks like salmon, you can completely hide them.
