Techniques To Stop And Treat Dandruff

November 13, 2009

dandruffwomanThere are many reasons as to what causes dandruff. Anyone who has ever had dandruff easily recognizes the white flakes that fall from their scalp onto the shoulders of their garments. Many people think that dandruff flakes are actually dead skin cells.

Our scalp is an extension of our skin and does in fact shed skin cells. These dead skin cells that break away from the scalp are known as dandruff. Therefore, this belief is actually the truth. It is normal for a person to shed skin cells, but when this is excessive, it creates the skin condition called dandruff.

Dandruff is not healthy for the scalp and hair. It can make your scalp itchy. Dandruff can also make the hair roots lose their strength because dandruff covers the scalp and does not allow your skin to breathe.

Some people attribute dandruff to having a dry scalp but this is not the case. People with both dry and oily hair can have a dandruff problem. People with dry scalps develop dandruff because there is not enough moisture in their scalp, while those with oily hair get dandruff for an entirely different reason.

Excessive oil can create a layer over the scalp, which then dries, and flakes off the skin. You may not realize this, but dandruff can be contagious. If you share a comb with someone who has dandruff then you too can get it. It is important to keep your hair care products well cleaned and to change your pillowcases regularly.

Dandruff is caused by a deficiency of vitamins and minerals in a person. People who lack zinc and vitamin B are prime targets for getting dandruff. It is also caused by stress and unbalanced hormones. If you experience chronic dandruff, then you should meet with your dermatologist to discuss these possibilities.

Your diet plays a huge part in avoiding or getting dandruff. Make sure to eat healthy foods. Limit the amount of greasy foods you eat and cut back on tea and coffee. You may also want to consider taking some vitamin supplements such as vitamins E and B, and zinc. You can also get these vitamins and minerals by eating green leafy vegetables and fruit.

There are some dandruff relief shampoos on the market that you can try as well. We suggest KZ Shampoo. You can also try using SCALPE lotion. Both are medicated dandruff treatments.

They contain ketoconazole and zinc, which is what your scalp needs to stay healthy. Another suggestion to relieve your scalp of dandruff is a mixture of lemon, henna and curd. You can also try applying a concoction of tea and egg.
