The Best Home Remedies For Under Arm Odour

By on September 21, 2011

Under arm odour or body odour is called hyperhydrosis. We tend to sweat excessively during the summer months but it is not the sweat that primarily causes body odour. Excessive heat and sweating allows bacteria to accumulate under the arm pits and surrounding areas which then starts emitting a foul smell.

Certain conditions like hormonal disorders which cause excessive sweating may allow germs to build up. Constipation, stress and anxiety are some of the other reasons. Foul smells are emanated more from the genitals and arm pits because these areas sweat more and also harbour more bacteria. Under arm odour can be acutely embarrassing but can easily be treated with the help of these simple home remedies.

Vinegar

Simply wipe the under arm area with vinegar. This closes the skin pores and the acidic nature of vinegar prevents bacteria from building up.  Apple cider vinegar is particularly effective as it reduces the ph levels of the body and thus helps in warding off foul odour.

Avoid The Use Of Deodorants

Deodorants are vastly used by people suffering from under arm odour. They may be temporarily effective but do little good as they are full of toxic chemicals and harmful substances which may only aggravate the problem.

Beat Constipation

If you are severely constipated, battle it with the help of wheat grass. Wheat grass has laxative properties that will help to cleanse out your system and consequently reduce under arm odour. Eat a lot of fresh fruits and drink fluids to fight constipation.

Baking Soda

Baking soda will help to eliminate foul odour. Just apply some on the arm pit area and wash off.

Rose Water

Rose water helps to soothe the skin and also has a pleasant smell. Apply some liberally in your under arm region or put a few capfuls in your bath water before taking a bath.

Practice Good Hygiene

Make sure that you wear cotton clothes during summers. These will allow your armpits to breathe and will prevent sweat from accumulating. Bathe twice s day during hot summer months. Women can get their under arm areas waxed. Hair in the arm pits traps the sweat and the bacteria and starts to emit a foul smell.

Fuller’s Earth

Moisture allows the bacteria to breed and multiply so this must be effectively tackled. In order to do this make a paste of fuller’s earth and lemon juice and apply it on your under arms. Fuller’s earth has a pleasant fragrance and the acidic nature of lemon juice kills all bacteria. Do this twice daily to see effective results.

Anti-Microbial Powders

Anti-Fungal and anti-bacterial powders are now available at most chemical shops. Get one prescribed for yourself by a good dermatologist. Apply this powder liberally just after you take a shower. It will keep the odour at bay.

Exfoliate

You can make a home-made scrub with the help of honey, rice flour and sugar crystals. Apply this scrub on your armpits in small circular motions. This removes dead skin cells that attract bacteria. Follow a good diet and skin care regime to battle arm pit odour. In very severe cases it is important to show yourself to a doctor.
