The Proper Way to Wear Perfume
December 18, 2009
The perfume that you wear is a combination of scented oils and fixatives that emit a desirable smell. Men and women wear perfume to make themselves smell more attractive to other people.
But not all perfumes are attractive. Some are terribly strong and may actually offend a person who smells them. If you choose to wear perfume, then you have to follow a few tips to make sure that the fragrance that you choose is pleasant to everyone around you and not a put-off. Here are some tips to follow when selecting and wearing perfume.
How to choose the right perfume
Perfumes should be selected to enhance your natural scent. They should match your personality and the clothing that you are wearing. When you select a perfume, you should find one that works well with your natural body scent.
While at the perfume counter, spray a light mist on your skin and let it sit for a few minutes. Take a whiff of it to see how the scent reacts to your natural body’s scent. If you choose to spray a few different perfumes, make sure to space them out on your arm so that they do not mix scents.
Let the perfume stay on your skin for about fifteen minutes. This is when the full scent will bloom. If you find a perfume at the counter that you like, let it stay on your skin for a full day to see how you like it throughout the day. This will give you a chance to see if your body reacts to the fragrance and how long the smell stays on your skin. You can return to the store the next day to purchase it if you like it.
How to wear perfume
Don’t buy a perfume without trying it out first. Just because a perfume smells good in the bottle or on a friend does not mean that it will smell good on you. Plus, you need to make sure that you don’t have an allergic reaction to the perfume.
When you wear perfume during cold weather you will need to wear extra perfume because the cold weather makes the fragrance weak. If your skin is dry, you should also wear extra perfume.
Spray the perfume on your body after you have taken your morning bath. This is when your pores are open and are able to absorb the perfume best. Make sure not to use a strongly-scented deodorant or soap as this will affect the smell of your perfume. The perfume should be applied to areas of the body that will remain warm, such as behind the knees or in the crease of your elbow.
When you wear perfume, make sure that you are wearing good quality jewelry. The oils in the perfume can cause jewelry to become discolored. Also, do not spray the perfume directly on your clothing. This can cause a stain.
