Tips For Good Nails

nail-careDo’s: A good dose of vitamin E is essential in developing healthy and beautiful nails. The sun is an excellent source of vitamins, so expose your hands to the sunlight as much as possible.

But take care not to overexpose yourself to the sun.  Always moisturize your hands and nails to strengthen them and reduce chipping or cracking of the nails.

File your nails following the shape of your hand and the length of your fingers. For instance if your fingers are short, a rounded shape makes your nails seem longer If you have long nails you can try a square shaping of your nails with rounded edges. Oval shaped nails tend to suit all finger types.

Painting your nails is in and of itself an art.  When done properly it does wonders for your nails. Ensure that your nails are squeaky clean and there is no dirt or grease on them. Also make sure that you have not applied any oil, creams or lotions to your hands and that they are not wet or sweaty.

Before painting your nails, first apply a base coat to seal the edges. Then apply the nail color of your choice. Wait for it to dry completely before applying another coat. Two coats of enamel are recommended to allow the color to show up properly.

When you dry your nails, try your best not to use artificial dryers or any of the numerous gadgets available in the market today.  Instead, let your nails dry naturally so that they can look their best.  Finally, apply a top coat or sealant to your nails. This ensures that the color will last for at least ten days if not longer.

Don’ts: File your nails only when they are dry and not when they are wet.  Nails are at their softest when they are wet and tend to break or split more often. Do not expose your hands to extreme cold or extreme heat as it negatively affects the nails.

Always keep your hands moisturized.  The lotions help to keep the nails soft.  While it may not be the norm to wear nail color, one should apply clear nail polish so that the nails will look neat, shiny and well groomed. Avoid cutting the cuticles. It makes the fingers look puffy and makes the nails look bad. Instead of cutting the cuticles, gently push them back during a pedicure.
