In short, the Cervical Cap plays the role of a Condom. The difference between Condoms and a Cervical Cap is that Condoms are for use by men and the Cervical Cap is used by women. This cap is inserted into the woman’s Vagina (at the Cervical Area). The cap stops the sperm from entering into the woman’s body.
How to use a Cervical Cap:
Using a cervical cap is a technique that should be clearly learn from the physician or the gynecologist. The cap can be inserted by the woman herself. It should be placed at the entrance to the cervical area, which is located at the top of the vagina.
It has to be placed with the dome shape of the cap facing down. It should be placed deep inside the Vagina and at the entrance of cervix. After placing the cap, press on the edges to ensure that it is in the right position so that it does not come out during intercourse. The edges of the cap can be pinched so that it is correctly positioned.
Thereafter, feel the sides of the cap to confirm that there are no free spaces around the cap. Before inserting the cap, a woman should clean her hands with a disinfectant. Get the cap from a reputable manufacturer.
The positioning of the Cervical Cap is very important; otherwise, it may defeat the very purpose of using the cap. It is advisable that, for some time, the woman inserts the cap herself, but under medical supervision. If the cap is not properly inserted, there have been instances in which it has led to vaginal bleeding. Therefore, care should be taken to see that the cap is properly inserted.
Additional care:
As a matter of additional precaution, it is advisable that the cervical cap should be filled with a Spermicidal gel. This gel kills any sperm that comes in contact with it, which enhances the usefulness of a cervical cap. Fill the cervical cap with the gel up to 1/3 in the place provided in the cap. Although using a Spermicide is not mandatory, from the point of precaution, it is advisable to use this gel.
