Tips to apply foundation

Applying foundation on the face is an art and if you don’t get it right, it can spoil your entire look. The first step is to check if the foundation shade suits your complexion, for this apply the foundation on your jaw line and not hand or elbow as the hands are usually a different shade from your face. The lighting also plays an important part and it is essential to check the foundation in various lightings and match it with the shade of your neck.

Blush, eye shadow, lipstick help to emphasize your features while foundation is the base of your makeup and sets the mood of how you look. Most women have yellow based skin and hence should choose a yellow base foundation to merge with their skin tone. To create sheer looks use a sponge for application. A damp sponge gives better results. However if you want it a little thicker you can apply the foundation with your fingers. If you prefer a dew type look then use a gauze pad moist with some type of astringent and pat your make up with it without applying too much pressure. A witch hazel astringent works wonders and adds shine and glow to your face removing the dull matte look of the foundation. Also most people tend to forget applying the foundation on the neck area and a clear difference can be seen.

It is important to maintain your foundation well and always use fresh products. If the foundation has curdled or looks bad throw it away. Always have two shades of foundation, one for the summer and the other for winter or just mix both to get the perfect look throughout the year.
