Tips to Care for Oily Skin

When the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum, the skin tends to become oily. Sebum is essential for a healthy skin and the right amount helps keep the skin moisturized and, removes dead cells. It is only when there is too much of sebum does the skin get oily. This article deals with the causes, problems and solutions related to oily skin.
Causes and problems: Oily skin leads to acne, pimples and dull, greasy looking skin. With proper maintenance, however, it can be rectified. The various factors that cause oily skin are birth control pills, genes, inappropriate cosmetic or skin care products. However, the most common factor is hormonal imbalance evident with its presence largely amongst teenagers, pregnant and menopausal women.
Those with oily skin are prone to skin problems such as pimples, clogged pores, black heads, white heads, pimples and various blemishes. Oily skin tends to become dull and greasy. With proper care and treatment, this can be rectified. Cleansing the face often reduces the oiliness of the face and also removes the dirt that clogs the pores. Make up is another factor that contributes to the oiliness and clogging of pores, and it is absolutely essential to remove the make up at night. With the help of your food and water intake, and other natural treatments it is possible to reduce oiliness of the skin.
Remedies: Diet is very important if you want to have a beautiful glowing skin. A diet rich in fruits and green leafy vegetables should be included. Whole grains, nuts, wheat germ and beans are rich in vitamin B2, which help reduce oiliness and keeps the skin clear. Avoid junk food such as soft drinks, chocolates, fried food and alcoholic drinks. Food rich in fat and high on sugar should also be reduced.
The most common misconception is that oily skin does not need moisturization. This is not true and you should use moisturizers that have been developed especially for oily skin. A regular intake of fluids and water is required to keep the skin hydrated.
