Trying Again After A Miscarriage
December 26, 2008
One in eight pregnancies is a miscarriage. This might sound sad to you, but it is true. Mostly the miscarriage occurs in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. There are a number of reasons for this.
However, whatever the reason is, it is indeed a very crushing experience. One moment, you are reveling in the joy of carrying another life in your womb and then in the next moment you know that the life is gone now. It is surely very devastating.
Getting ready to try again for another pregnancy is not easy. The fear of failing again looms large. But here are some guidelines to help you by.
Wait
Do not rush into trying again just after having a miscarriage. You might be under pressure from your husband or relatives but be strong because this is your life at stake too. Let your uterus recover fully before you go into trying again. The best time to wait is at least three months. Consult your GP to be sure about it.
It is advisable to wait longer if you had a molar or ectopic pregnancy.
Know the reason for your miscarriage
This will give you a kind of closure as to why your baby died. If the reason was genetic abnormality, you can get checked for genetic problems or diseases. If it was a blood clot, you can be treated with a low dose of aspirin and heparin.
Do not fear asking why. However, remember there might not always be an answer.
Let it out
Talk to someone about your fears and emotions. Do not keep it in and under no circumstances blame yourself. Join a support group if you have to.
Ready yourself
You can do this by increasing or boosting your fertility naturally. Avoid stress, eat organic food, take supplements like zinc, selenium and folic acid. Say no to alcohol and smoking.
Do not fret
If you become pregnant again, do not become overcome with fear. Stay calm. Statistics say that most women miscarry only once. If you worry too much then contact your GP, he might help you.
Be alert about any danger signs
This does not mean you have to try to deliberately find something wrong. But you should keep yourself alert of danger signs like bleeding or spotting, swollen hands and feet, vaginal discharge and stomach pains.
Relax and enjoy the days of pregnancy. Remember to remain positive.
