Cysts

A cyst is basically a fluid filled sac which is usually present near the surface or deep inside near your chest wall. If it’s near the chest you can feel it to be something like a water balloon and cyst can usually move around and their size varies during your menstrual cycle. They are common in women who are between the ages of 30 and 40 and stop forming after menopause. Cysts usually do not require any kind of treatment as they fade away by themselves.

Lipomas

Lipomas are a kind of fatty tumors that are found between the muscles under the breast. It is possible to feel them when you touch them and you will actually find them moving around. But sometimes you can also locate them in awkward places. These tumors can cause a lot of discomfort due to their wrong positions and also intense pain as well as uneasiness. In such cases you can consult your doctor and get it removed. Otherwise, these tumors do not usually require any treatment.

Fibro adenomas

This is a solid, round group of benign cells that are found near the surface of the breast. Due to the fact that they occur very close to the surface of the skin you can easily feel their presence when you touch them and this touch would also cause them to move. It is most common in the younger and middle aged women but not seen in post menopausal women. If needed it can be removed but one thing is that is does not cause any pain and for sure it is harmless.

Infection or inflammation

One kind of infection is mastitis which is basically a breast tissue inflammation and common symptoms are intense pain, swelling and redness. This infection mainly occurs in women who have just delivered and are breast feeding their babies. The bacteria usually enter the breast when there is an incision in the breast or through the exposed nipple. Usually this can cured by taking oral antibiotics and definitely there is nothing to be worried about.

Nipple discharge Usually there will some discharge from the nipple since breast is a gland. But this discharge is often wrongly seen as cancerous rather than benign. This condition is very common in women who take birth control pills or other sedatives. Usually doctors take a sample of the discharge to analyze and the recommended solution is to keep the nipple area clean. In case, it is found that the discharge is due to some infection then antibiotics need to be taken.

In short, there are various other reasons other than cancer that can occur in the breast area. So please ensure that you do not come to hasty conclusions if there is something wrong in your breast and make it a point to consult your physician so that you can avoid unnecessary anxiety and tension.
