This is because, hair color contains a lot of chemical substances and chemical dyes that can make your hair dry, brittle and stiff. Colored hair often lacks the shine, smoothness and bounce of natural hair. Hence it is important to take proper care of your hair if it is colored.

One of the important things about protecting colored hair from damage is to dry it properly. Drying can cause breakage in your hair if proper care is not taken. The following points will tell you how to go about drying hair after coloring.

Absorb Excess Moisture

Wet hair is susceptible to breakage because wet hair is weak. If you have colored your hair, then you should take extra care with wet hair because you do not want already vulnerable hair to be further damaged. Hence one of the first things that you should do with regard to drying hair after coloring is to take a soft towel and gently pat your hair to absorb the excess moisture. You should make sure not to rub your hair with the towel. Rubbing your hair can cause breakage due to the friction. Hence just pat your hair to absorb the extra moisture from your hair.

Protect The Color

Another reason for drying your hair gently with a towel is to protect the color. This is especially true if you have colored your hair for the first time. If this is indeed the first time that you have colored your hair, then you should not rub your hair scrub your hair with a towel because the chemicals in the hair color can react to the friction and make your hair drier more brittle.

Avoid Blow Dryer

If you have colored for the first time, then you should avoid using a blow dryer. Drying hair after coloring with a blow dryer will cause further breakage to your hair because it has been treated with chemicals in the color and also because wet hair is weak and brittle. A blow dryer will also cause damage by the excess heat that is applied in the drying process. Hence it is always advisable that you should dry your hair naturally, especially if you have colored hair.

At times, when your hair is wet just after coloring, you may find that your hair is of a different shade than the one you wanted. There is nothing to be alarmed about this. Colored hair that is wet generally appears darker because of the moisture. Once your hair dries out, it will gain the color that you wanted.

Finally, with regard to drying hair after coloring, you should remember not to use a comb when your hair is still wet. This is because using a comb will cause tension in your hair that may lead to breakage. If you have to use a comb however, it is best to use one that is wide toothed so that it does the least amount of damage.
