What You Need to Know About Plucking Your Eyebrows

March 10, 2009

eyebrow1Plucking is the most common way to shape and maintain eyebrows. One of the reasons so many people prefer to pluck their eyebrows instead of waxing is because there is a decreased risk of removing too much hair.

All you need to pluck your eyebrows is a mirror, bright lighting and a good pair of tweezers. Do not use electric tweezers for plucking eyebrows.

Eyebrow Plucking Tips

Before you start plucking your eyebrows you should spend sometime looking at yourself in the mirror. Imagine what your eyebrows will look like when you finish plucking and decide what parts of your eyebrows need to be thinned. Envision exactly what hair you are going to remove. The more time you spend thinking about what hairs you are going to tweeze, the less likely you are to over pluck your eyebrows.

Never pluck your eyebrows immediately after washing your face or applying facial cream. The skin pores open when they are moist and increase the risk of you over plucking your eyebrows.

How to Pluck Your Eyebrows

Plucking eyebrows is a time consuming project. Make sure you aren’t feeling rushed. You should also take several deep breaths and make sure you are in a patient mood. Make sure that you won’t be distracted when you are plucking your eyebrows. People who are distracted or impatient seldom end up with evenly plucked eyebrows.

Use your first finger and thumb and pull at the skin where you are going to be plucking, this will help save you from inadvertently catching the skin with the ends of the tweezers. Make sure you don’t press down against the skin as this can cause bruises.

Start plucking the eyebrow at the bottom and gradually work your way up. The last place you will pluck is the top of the eyebrow. Pluck only one hair at a time and always pull in the direction the hair is growing. You will want to stop often to evaluate your work; the last thing you want to do is remove too many hairs. Also check to make sure that both of your eyebrows match.

When you are finished plucking your eyebrows, rub some lotion into your eyebrows. The lotion will help soothe the irritated skin and ease any swelling.
