Why Makes Tea Tree Oil a Household Item

We have uncovered five of the common uses of tea tree oil that would make it a household item for many families around the world.

Cold Sores and Canker Sores

In regard to cold sores and canker sores, the tea tree oil can be applied directly to them at least twice a day. If the sores are in your mouth, make sure you rinse with two capfuls of the tea tree oil and gargle twice a day.

Head Lice

When you shampoo your head take ten drops of the tea tree oil and add it to your shampooing routine making sure your scalp is wet and lathered. Take a fine toothed comb and comb through your hair, use a brush if there isn’t enough hair to comb. This must be done before rinsing. You want to repeat this daily until there are no more traces of lice. And don’t forget to treat areas of your home where you routinely lay your head. The tea tree oil can successfully be used in your wash as well.

Insect Bites

Applying a drop of tea tree oil to an insect bites or wasp sting can help to ease the pain and discomfort that follows them.

Skin Irritations and Sunburns

With skin irritations and sunburns, the best and most effective way of treating them is to run a warm water bath and add a few drops of tea tree oil and it will actually diminish the swelling and itching associated with these common problems.

Bug Repellant

Bugs are not very well associated with tea tree oil. Roaches, ants, and other crawling critters can easily be prevented by applying drops of the oil in cracks and crevices where these pests live and breathe.

Feel free to wipe down your kitchen cabinets, pantry, and cupboards with some of the oil and critters will find another home outside of yours. You can even get rid of dust mites by rubbing down your mattresses and if you add a couple of drops into your vacuum cleaner bag, you can eliminate them found within your carpet.

So as you can see, the tea tree oil can be used for a number of things inside and outside the comfort of your home. However, tea tree oil and pets DO NOT MIX, especially with cats.
